What is film photography?
Film Photography — Questions I’m Often Asked
Film photography is the art of capturing light on 35mm film. Its a slower, more intentional process that reveals depth, grain, and feeling in every frame. Each roll carries the texture of real life: Tasmanian light, ocean air, and quiet moments between.
Why choose film instead of digital?
Film invites patience. It teaches trust in the moment rather than perfection in editing. Every image is crafted, not corrected. Its a collaboration between light, timing, and emotion.
Can I book a brand or family session on film?
Absolutely. Every story — whether it’s a brand film photography or family photography can be told on film. I work with natural light, gentle direction, and 35mm film stock to create images that feel real and enduring.
Do you shoot in both film and digital?
Most sessions are photographed primarily on 35mm film, with a small number of digital frames captured for flexibility in print and editorial use if requested.
Where in Tasmania do you shoot?
I photograph all across Tasmania including Hobart, Launceston, Tasmania’s East, West, Southern and Northern Coast, often in natural light and open spaces. Each location is chosen for its quiet beauty . In your home, out in the coastal air, forest edges and home studios. (*travel fee may apply)
How long does it take to receive my film photographs?
Film is sent for professional lab processing and hand-scanned. You’ll receive your gallery in around 4 weeks, depending on lab turnaround. For Weddings, expect between 4 to 6 weeks.
What should I wear?
Choose pieces that feel like you. Neutral tones, natural fabrics, and movement photograph beautifully on film — think linen, cotton, wool, or silk. Avoid harsh patterns or bright logos. The goal isn’t to dress up, but to feel at ease. Texture and simplicity always translate best through film’s softness.
Do you photograph weddings or elopements on film?
Yes, selectively. I take on a small number of intimate celebrations each year, always on film. For larger events, hybrid coverage (film + digital) can be arranged.
